Everton Cemetery on Long Lane, Fazakerley, was
opened in 1880. There are three distinct sections:
Church of England; Roman Catholic and General or
un-consecrated. The layout of the
sections can be seen in this
diagram. |

Separate burials
registers were kept for each section
until 1928. There was also a separate
register for 'pauper burials'. From 1928
all burials started to be recorded in
one volume. |

This index covers all
the 3,500+ burials recorded in the Roman
Catholic register (1880-1928).

| The index gives the
Folio (ie a double page) number, the
entry number, the year of burial, the
forename and surname of the deceased,
the age, and the grave number in the
case of burial in a private grave. |
| The original
registers also give 'rank of
profession' as well as
the 'late abode'
of the deceased, the name of the person
performing the burial ceremony and the
owner of the grave (in the case of a
private grave). |
| A second series of
records, known as order books, were also
compiled by the cemetery authorities. In
addition to the information provided in
the burial register the order books give
the time of the burial, the price of the
grave, the name of the undertaker and
often both the name and address of the
person who paid for the grave.

number of a private grave in Everton
Cemetery - or any other Liverpool
Corporation cemetery - the ORDER NUMBERS
of everyone buried in the grave can be
obtained by telephoning Liverpool
Council (0151 233 3004). It is important
to note that although the order books
are arranged in a rough chronological
order the entry numbers in the burial
register and the ORDER NUMBERS are
NOT IDENTICAL so if you obtain a
list of order numbers from the council
it will be necessary to consult the
order books rather than the burial
registers. |
